Mom, Want To Make Money Online?

I?m a Stay at Home Mom and I?m broke. I?m pinching pennies left and right and we still aren?t making ends meet. I need to bring in some money, but I really don?t want to go back to work. I have a computer at home. What can I do to make money?

Signed ? Broke in Baltimore

Dear Broke in Baltimore,

Oh, how I love to help Moms make money from home. It sounds like you?re open to working on your computer. Let?s get you some ideas on doing just that.

First of all, be careful of scams. Anything that sounds too good to be true, is. Stay away from any job that requires money down (the exception to that is Direct Sales, as most kits are bought).

So, what are your options?

Online store. Do you have a product that you want to sell? Maybe you make bracelets or soap that your neighbors go crazy for? Set up a website and you?ve got an instant storefront. Websites can be started for a very low price now. You?ll need a domain name (your website name), hosting, and some way to design your website. From there, you just need to work getting visitors to your online store to get sales. It?s not quite as easy as it sounds, but it is a very viable business option.

Telecommuting. There are businesses that will hire home workers for an hourly rate. These jobs are few and far between, but they are out there. If you want to qualify for a Telecommuting position, you?ll need to work on your resume and cover letter and interview skills. There is a lot of competition, but you can do it!

Direct Sales. There are literally thousands of Direct Sales companies, offering everything from cosmetics to wine. And, people do make money with these programs. (Of course, there are no guarantees, but there is potential.) Some of these companies even provide their consultants with a website, free of charge. Beware, though, and really research a company before joining. Some are still in the stone ages with their advertising policies and do not allow you to promote your website in any way. So, if you plan to work mostly online, do some research before signing on the dotted line.

Online Assistant: Many moms are making a good living as a Virtual Assistant doing anything from writing articles to advertising for their clients. If you love office work, this is an option you may want to look into.

Once you figure out what interests you, network with other moms who are successful, take online classes, or hire a coach. Invest in yourself and you'll invest in your business.

How To Make Money And Run A Successful Business In 2006!

Remember the days when businesses were just past on and business was taken for granted? If you do chances are that you are thinking about business in the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's and maybe even the nineties. It certainly isn't true in the 21st century.

Business used to think that all they had to do was run a nice clean predictable business and their loyal customers would keep coming. Work a little harder, maybe get a new item or run a sale and you made a little more money. Look at brands like Zenith, Sony, Woolworths, Kodak, Bell, Corel Draw, Palm, Microsoft and Google. The ones that have remained successful haven't rested on their laurels. They continue to invest in training, new products, new research and development and have paid close attention to trends in technology and customer preferences. The ones that did nothing but open their shops are either gone or in big trouble.

So far it sounds interesting but you're saying you don't run a huge corporation and don't have an Research and Development Department. These practices apply to every business profession. I own a medium sized printing and promotional product company, solutions Ink in Montreal, Canada whose sales have more than doubled each of the last three years. During this time my competitors businesses have diminished. Usually I find my competition trying to sell the same products and waiting for the phone to ring for an order. Here they are in a profession that deals with promotion and marketing on a daily basis and these people seem clueless. I made it a point to join industry associations and frequent trade shows on a regular basis in places outside of my own city.

Sure it costs money to join these associations and sure it costs money to attend the shows, never mind the lost hours while your gone but not doing it will cost you a lot more. These associations are at the front of the industry, researching new trends, new technologies and new ways of doing business. At the start of the dot com age I met a company that was a pioneer in the online ordering systems for printing. I was the first one in Canada to offer this service. I did it because it made sense for larger customers to order this way. They could save time and hidden procurement costs for their companies. It was an easy sell to my customers and being an early adopter gave me reason to solicit potential new customers with great success. Once these customers became users these customers became very loyal. The same is true for the promotional product side of the business. Having an online store, www.solutionsink4u.com with over 600,000 items on it gave me an advantage over the traditional sales person who came in with the same 4 catalogues. If customers were willing to invest in a promotion of their company chances were that they wanted to stand out and not have the same product as every one else.

Going to larger trade shows outside of my home town gave me opportunity to see new products and learn how other people sold them. At most trade shows they have educational seminars. Many people pass on them, but the smart, successful people are usually there. You are never to old to learn something new and from a business perspective, those that are unwilling to change usually perish. Successful businesses continue to evolve. A by product of these trade shows has been meeting many new suppliers. You might not need them right now, but one day this connection will pay great dividends. My main lines today are very different from my main lines 5 years ago. My sales have increased dramatically together with better profit margins. Don't be in the "me too" business, try to find your niche early and become an expert in it. Once this becomes comfortable search out the next new line or product.

In summary an eduction from school is great and I have a masters degree. The true education that will be beneficial to your successful business comes many years removed from your college days and many miles from your former campuses. If you ned any help or suggestions on what to do for your business drop me an email at steve@solutionsink4u.com. I would be happy to help.

How To Make More Money With Affiliate Programs

Affiliate programs are one of the web's most effective marketing techniques. They create a win-win situation by which site A refers a visitor to site B, and site B pays site A a commission if that visitor purchases something. If you are the referrer site (affiliate), you can make money with no overhead (no product, no warehouse, no collection risk). On the other hand, the destination site receives a steady stream of qualified leads from hundreds, maybe thousands of affiliate sites, and doesn't have to spend a dime unless a visitor purchases something.

To maximize effectiveness, affiliate sites need to keep in mind some common sense suggestions:

1) Resist the temptation to add too many affiliate links. Affiliate link overkill confuses visitors and hurts credibility. You want your visitors to view your site as a value-adding destination and not just a cheesy sales site. Recommend links to products you have tried, or that come from good, solid companies. Don't recommend something you don't know just because you're getting paid. Give your visitors the best advice and they will reward you.

2) If you write articles for your website, try not to include the affiliate links in the body of your articles: it will give the impression that you have a vested interest in recommending them. You want your visitors to trust your advice, so don't turn your article into an excuse to promote products and make a commission. It's OK to include affiliate links, but do it on a side bar or on a resource table. Whenever possible, link to your affiliate partners with text links (since banner ad click-through is at its lower rate ever, and people tend to ignore banners).

3) Include only affiliate links that are related to your business and the topic of interest to your visitors. Links to unrelated products will not generate good leads for the destination sites (and therefore won't be a source of significant commissions for you), so they are best avoided.

4) Managing your affiliate programs can be a hassle if you have to deal with many different companies. Try to sign up with a site that administers many affiliate programs to chose from (one of the best out there are Commission Junction [www.cj.com] and Befree.com [www.befree.com]). These sites give you hundreds of affiliate programs to chose from, and act as a one-stop shop where you can sign up with multiple vendors using only one account and receiving one consolidated commission check.

5) Chose affiliate partners that offer long term cookies. A cookie is a mechanism that allows the destination site to know when a visitor is referred by your site. A long term cookie (for example, a three months cookie) means that a visitor who follows a link to one of your affiliate partners today but doesn't purchase anything, can come back and purchase at anytime during the next three months and you will still be paid a commission. The best programs are those who offer unlimited cookies (although there are not so many of them around). However, a 90-day cookie or more is very good.

6) Link directly to the product page and not to the main page of the destination site. If you link to the main page, the visitor will have to find its way to the product and may not find it, making you lose commissions. By linking directly to the product, you will increase the prospects of the visitor buying the product (and of you making a commission). Many destination sites, like Amazon, recognize this fact and offer a higher commission to affiliates that link directly to the product pages than to those who only link to the main page.

Follow these simple guidelines and you will improve your chances of success with all your affiliate programs.
